Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Kolkata High Court has clarified that it will not interfere with the ongoing recruitment process initiated by the School Service Commission (SSC) following the cancellation of the 2016 recruitment drive. On Monday, Justice Sougat Bhattacharya, while hearing a petition challenging the new SSC notification, stated, "At this stage, the court will not intervene." The court confirmed that the recruitment process would continue under the normal procedure, and the next hearing is scheduled for July.
The Supreme Court had earlier annulled the 2016 SSC recruitment process due to allegations of corruption and ordered the SSC to start a fresh recruitment within a stipulated timeline. In response, the SSC issued a new notification introducing several changes to the earlier rules. This new notification has faced opposition from candidates who feel disadvantaged by the modifications made in the recruitment criteria and procedures.
Despite the ongoing challenges, the Kolkata High Court emphasized that the recruitment work must proceed normally. However, the court also noted that it is prepared to hear any issues or problems that may arise during the recruitment process. This position indicates that while the court is refraining from immediate intervention, it remains open to judicial review if necessary.
